A Clarkston Heights home was damaged by a lightning strike at about 1pm Sunday afternoon.
Asotin County Fire District #1 was dispatched to a possible home on fire. The home owner was reporting a lightning strike and a stong smell of smoke in the home.
When crews arrived they found that lightning hit a tree in the front yard. The home had underground power and surged the power into the home and that surge damaged many small appliances in the house.
Fire crews shut the power off to the home and used a thermal imaging camera to check the home for any issues.
The fire chief contacted Clearwater Power which provides power to the home and they opted not to respond to check out any possible issues of power to the home stating according to the meter all is working properly.
There were no reported injuries In this incident. Chief Hardin did say when lightning is hitting in your neighborhood, it’s not a bad idea to unplug items that do not have a surge protector.
