Council Moves Project Downtown Forward

The City took another step forward with Project Downtown Pullman when the City Council expressed its support for selected projects during their regularly scheduled meeting on

August 9.

The Council agreed with the Steering Committee’s recommendation, to prioritize significant reinvestment in Main Street and Grand Avenue. The subsequent effort will replace aging

downtown infrastructure with an emphasis on wider sidewalks, pedestrian safety, and slower traffic speeds through downtown Pullman.

“The City is thrilled to move forward with Project Downtown as a way to enhance the downtown experience for residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor Glenn Johnson. “We’re excited

to see how each improvement helps maximize economic vitality, accessibility, and charm in our downtown district.”

The Council’s direction will enable City staff and Welch Comer Engineers to move into the second phase of the project to prepare engineering designs, manage bidding for each

selected project, and prepare for construction in 2023. The construction will be funded through approximately $9 million of the City of Pullman’s American Rescue Plan Act (APRA)

funds.
