Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 3rd District since 2023, has been vocal on social media about healthcare access and fiscal accountability. She replaced Jaime Herrera Beutler in her congressional role and brings personal experience from living in unincorporated Skamania County to her advocacy efforts.

On July 5, 2025, Perez expressed concern about healthcare accessibility for rural communities. She noted, “I live in unincorporated Skamania County – so I know just how difficult it can be to access healthcare when you need it.” She highlighted the critical role of rural hospitals as “a lifeline” and criticized a bill she described as “a mess of party favors for special interests.”

Later that day, Perez addressed potential healthcare coverage losses for millions of Americans. On July 5, 2025, she tweeted, “Across our country, 17 million Americans stand to lose healthcare.” She warned that these cuts would affect working citizens, seniors, and people with disabilities by introducing burdensome red tape and paperwork.

On July 7, 2025, Perez took a stance against reducing funds for federal oversight bodies. She stated her opposition to a funding bill in committee which proposed significant cuts to the Government Accountability Office (GAO). As she tweeted on this date: “I refuse to defend bureaucratic inefficiency – which is why I voted against a funding bill in committee that defunds our federal auditing watchdog by half.” The GAO plays an essential role by clawing back $92 billion annually and identifying improper Medicaid expenditures.

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and currently resides in Washougal. She holds a BA from Reed College.
