Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who represents Washington’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used her social media platform to address legislative priorities and advocate for policy changes affecting her constituents.
On July 28, 2025, Gluesenkamp Perez called attention to the importance of Secure Rural Schools grants in Southwest Washington. She urged congressional leadership to take action, stating, “We’ve got something incredible worth fighting for in Southwest Washington. But it’s at risk if we don’t renew Secure Rural Schools grants. @SpeakerJohnson, bring our bipartisan bill to the floor – for our kids, our rural communities, and the future of the skilled trades.”
The following day, on July 29, 2025, she highlighted a procedural gap in how legislation is crafted and amended: “In our laws and legislation, a thousand words paint a picture. But sometimes a concept just can’t be described w/o an image. After I found out there’s no process to add home blueprints for veterans to a bill, my amendment passed committee to work toward including visual info in”.
Later that same day, Gluesenkamp Perez addressed issues of succession planning both within family farms and among members of Congress: “Our family farmers have difficult conversations about who’ll be next to run the farm when they’re no longer able to. Why shouldn’t our Members of Congress be held to a similar standard?”
Gluesenkamp Perez has represented Washington’s 3rd District since replacing Jaime Herrera Beutler in 2023. Born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and now residing in Washougal, she graduated from Reed College with a BA in 2012.
