Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who represents Washington’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to advocate for increased accountability and transparency regarding the cognitive health of lawmakers.

On July 14, 2025, Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez stated: “Americans deserve to know their Representatives are capable of fighting for them.

We need accountability, which is why I’m working to set ethics standards for Members of Congress experiencing cognitive impairment and memory loss.”

Continuing her push for reforms, she posted on July 15, 2025: “We need nonpartisan ethics rules for lawmakers facing significant, irreversible memory loss & impairment.

It’s about Congress having self-respect & giving transparency to Americans.

It’s common sense to SW Washington, but why isn’t it to Washington, DC?”

In a lighter note on July 16, 2025, she shared a personal moment involving her family: “Uma snatched @CityofBGWA PD’s support dog Rafferty off the shelf when I left to the House Floor for my five-minute speech this morning “

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has served in Congress since replacing Jaime Herrera Beutler in 2023. She was born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and currently resides in Washougal. She graduated from Reed College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2012.
