Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who represents Washington’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to call for stricter ethics standards and financial regulations for members of Congress.
On July 30, 2025, Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez posted: “We deserve a Congress that’s unafraid to speak the truth and hold itself to the same standards most Americans do.
It’s why I’m fighting for basic, nonpartisan ethics standards for Representatives facing cognitive decline or memory loss.

Two days later, on August 1, 2025, she addressed concerns about financial conflicts of interest among lawmakers: “No member of Congress or spouse should be allowed to trade individual stocks.
This job is about service – not lining your pockets.” She also shared a related link in a separate post: “https://t.co/2yZVbmcQnv”.
Gluesenkamp Perez began serving in Congress in 2023 after succeeding Jaime Herrera Beutler as representative of Washington’s 3rd district. Born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and currently residing in Washougal, she holds a BA from Reed College (2012). Her recent statements reflect ongoing debates over congressional accountability and transparency regarding both ethical conduct and personal finances.
