Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 3rd District since 2023, has recently shared her insights and experiences through a series of tweets. Her posts highlight her engagements with educational programs and express her concerns over legislative decisions affecting healthcare.
On July 8, Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez tweeted about her visit to Rochester High School where she interacted with student leaders involved in organizations such as @NationalFFA, @SkillsUSA, and @FBLA_National, as well as those participating in metalwork, woodshop, agriculture, and robotics programs. She stated: “At Rochester High School, I met with some incredible student leaders in @NationalFFA, @SkillsUSA, and @FBLA_National – as well as in metal, woodshop, ag and robotics.” This visit underscores her appreciation for the diverse skills being developed among students.
The following day on July 9, she expressed criticism towards a significant legislative proposal through another tweet. She highlighted that “The big bill makes major cuts to Apple Health and adds even more red tape for working U.S. citizens.” According to her assessment, the bill appears designed to avoid accountability by implementing harmful provisions post-election.
Later that same day, Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez voiced concerns about potential impacts on local healthcare services due to the same legislative measure. She noted that “Ocean Beach Health could lose 40% in revenue under the partisan big bill jammed through the House.” Emphasizing the negative effects on essential services and senior care accessibility, she affirmed her opposition by stating: “I voted no.”
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and currently resides in Washougal. A Reed College alumna who graduated with a BA in 2012, she succeeded Jaime Herrera Beutler in Congress.
