Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, representing Washington’s 3rd District in the U.S. Congress since 2023, has expressed concerns about several issues through her recent tweets. Born in Harris County, Texas, and a graduate of Reed College with a BA, Perez resides in Washougal. Her social media posts on July 3, 2025, reflect her stance on congressional ethics standards and fiscal policies.

On July 3, 2025, Rep. Perez addressed the lack of ethical guidelines for members of Congress who experience memory loss or cognitive decline. She emphasized the need for “transparency, accountability,” and for Congress to adhere to higher standards. “There’s no ethics standard to address Members of Congress remaining in office with memory loss or cognitive decline – and I want to change that.”

Later that day, she announced her decision to vote against a partisan reconciliation bill. In her view, the current political environment is imbalanced due to one-party control which affects everyone negatively. She stated: “Most of us want honest debate, compromise, and bipartisanship – not party favors for special interests and political parties.”

In another post on the same day, Rep. Perez highlighted concerns over national debt levels by illustrating how $4 trillion could equate to $31,000 per U.S. household if distributed directly. She noted this as an unsustainable increase in debt burdening families in Southwest Washington: “$4 trillion might just seem like another number on paper to politicians in D.C.”
