U.S. Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who represents Washington’s 3rd district in Congress, recently highlighted bipartisan support for her amendment addressing the issue of excessively bright vehicle headlights. In a series of posts on July 18, 2025, she discussed the growing concern over headlight brightness and acknowledged colleagues from both parties for their backing.

In her first post, Gluesenkamp Perez wrote, “If there’s one thing Democrats & Republicans can agree on, it’s that headlights are too damn bright. Brightness doubled in the last decade, yet our standards are from before I was born. My amendment passed to find solutions, since it’s not a binary choice between the light of https://t.co/uSqHJ4bCo1” (July 18, 2025).

She followed up by expressing appreciation for bipartisan collaboration: “I’m glad to see my colorful language come in handy. Thank you @MarkAmodeiNV2 for your bipartisan support! https://t.co/MWt7mzKDVj” (July 18, 2025).

In another post on the same day, Gluesenkamp Perez thanked Rep. Steve Womack and made reference to puns about misaligned headlights: “Thanks @Rep_SteveWomack for your bipartisan support and not letting my amendment get left in the dark. If the response from our colleagues is any indication, your puns might need a little bit of adjusting (not unlike misaligned headlights). https://t.co/nHJHaIZ0q3” (July 18, 2025).

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has served as a member of Congress representing Washington’s 3rd District since replacing Jaime Herrera Beutler in 2023. She was born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and currently resides in Washougal. Perez graduated with a BA from Reed College in 2012.
