Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 3rd district, shared a series of tweets reflecting on the 45th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens and related topics. Her posts highlighted the ongoing impact of the eruption, the efforts of local rescue teams, and educational initiatives concerning natural landscapes.

On May 18, 2025, Rep. Perez noted the historical significance of Mt. St. Helens’ eruption: “Today marks 45 years since the eruption of Mt. St. Helens.” She reflected on how “decades later we still feel the impacts of how the eruption reshaped the landscape,” inviting followers to share their memories.

In a subsequent tweet on May 19, she expressed gratitude for local search and rescue efforts: “We’re lucky to have beautiful mountains and forests that welcome visitors from around the world, but not everyone comes prepared.” She praised Skamania Search & Rescue for their dedication to ensuring visitor safety across challenging terrains.

Later that day, Rep. Perez mentioned her visit to an educational institute focused on Mt. St. Helens: “I had the opportunity to visit @MSHInstitute last Congress to see how they’re educating folks about one of our state’s greatest natural beauties.” She used this occasion to highlight concerns over federal funding cuts affecting such educational programs.

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and graduated from Reed College in 2012 with a BA. Since replacing Jaime Herrera Beutler in 2023, she has been actively representing Washington’s 3rd District in Congress.
