Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a U.S. Congress representative for Washington’s 3rd district since 2023, recently shared insights on education, government structure, and law enforcement via social media. Born in Harris County, Texas in 1988, she resides in Washougal and holds a BA from Reed College.

On May 14, Rep. Perez commented on the educational approach at Discovery High School. She remarked: “It was cool to see how Discovery High School integrates practical, hands-on learning with everything students are working on.” She emphasized the importance of combining career and technical education with academics to help students pursue their passions.

In a subsequent post on May 15, Rep. Perez highlighted the significance of maintaining balance among governmental branches. She stated: “It’s imperative that the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of our government remain co-equal, as prescribed in our Constitution.” As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, she stressed the necessity of oversight over federal expenditures.

On May 17, Rep. Perez paid tribute to law enforcement officers during National Police Week. She noted: “It’s important we honor the service and patriotism of our brave law enforcement officers – as well as remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.” She expressed gratitude towards Jeff and Marco from the Washington State Fraternal Order of Police for including her in an honor guard and pipe band tribute event.

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has been serving in Congress since replacing Jaime Herrera Beutler in 2023.
