Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 3rd district since 2023, has been vocal on several issues through her social media presence. Born in Harris County, Texas in 1988 and currently residing in Washougal, Perez graduated from Reed College in 2012 with a BA. Her recent tweets address legislative concerns and community engagement.

On July 1, 2025, Perez criticized a new bill as being “a bloated product of single-party control and a concoction of special favors for special interests,” which she argues burdens everyday Americans. She expressed concern that it undermines the economic power of hardworking families in Washington’s 3rd district by increasing bureaucratic hurdles. “This bill is a bloated product of single-party control and a concoction of special favors for special interests – and it leaves everyday Americans carrying the bag.”

The following day, July 2, Perez reflected on her interactions with various communities across different sizes and types. She mentioned visiting the Rainier Senior Center where she discussed Medicaid cuts and ways to support seniors living on fixed incomes. “I consider it a privilege that so many communities of all sizes and types have opened their doors to me and shared candidly what their priorities are.”

Later on July 2, Perez highlighted the need for ethical standards regarding cognitive decline among members of Congress. She pointed out that while there are guidelines about accepting gifts like hats, there is insufficient guidance on addressing significant cognitive decline among representatives. She announced her appearance on CNN to discuss these efforts further. “Congress has clear standards about what type of hat Representatives can accept as a gift, yet there’s a disturbing lack of guidelines to address significant, irreversible cognitive decline.”

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez continues to engage with her constituents and raise awareness on critical issues affecting her district.
