Asotin County Sheriff’s Office is dealing with several calls related to fake unemployment claims, Big Country News Connection reported.

Perpetrators are said to be using someone else’s Social Security Number to file the claims. Anyone who has been contacted concerning a fake unemployment claim with their personal information and details are urged to file a report via the Employment Security Office. If their Social Security Number has been used and/or put at risk, they should also reach out to the Social Security Administration.

The Employment Security Department for Washington State's website said, “Washington state takes unemployment insurance fraud very seriously. If you have reason to believe someone has applied for unemployment benefits using your information or used a scam to obtain your private information, please report that to us using the information below.”

Those wanting to file a report are instructed to contact the Attorney General’s office here: ESDGPInternalFraud@ESD.WA.GOV.  They can also call 800-246-9763.
