Conflicting interpretations of information from the governor's office caused Asotin County commissioners to keep the public from attending its latest meeting in person.

Chairman Chris Seubert told the Lewiston Tribune Gov. Jay Inslee's order barring in-person public meetings has been extended to July 1, but after entering Phase 3, which allows gatherings of no more than 50 people, the commission scheduled an open-door meeting.

In an effort of compromise, the public was allowed to attend the meeting through Zoom while county employees, who were on the agenda, attended in person. Those in attendance wore face masks and followed social distancing protocols.

The city of Asotin has postponed its latest meeting, according to the Lewiston Tribune. Clarkston is offering meetings online and has not yet resumed in-person meetings.

The Asotin County Courthouse is now open to the public who are asked to wear face coverings and sign in when they enter the building. Appointments with elected officials are encouraged.
