The Washington State Historical Society’s Heritage Capital Grant program recommended the Pullman Depot Heritage Center for a $265,740 grant from Olympia in early part of next year.
Jennifer Kilmer, Washington State Historical Society Director, said her organization’s mission is to work with communities to show how important local history is.
The Whitman County Historical Society bought the depot center in 2018 and has raised funds to protect the structure’s exterior.
Linda Hackbarth, Pullman Depot Heritage Center co-coordinator, said her organization wants to the building to highlight the role railroads played in building Pullman and surrounding communities, the Daily Evergreen reported.
So far, $400,000 has been raised and efforts are underway to raise an additional $135,000.
