Cops and Kids, a 24-year-old Walla Walla tradition, happens every winter to allow law enforcement agencies to give back to children and families for the holidays.
This time, Cops and Kids helped 27 families in Walla Walla, but things were slightly different because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yak Tri News reported.
"Normally we do it at Walmart, we'll have breakfast with children and do some shopping," Walla Walla Code Enforcement Officer Amy Harris said, the Yak Tri News reported. "This year, with COVID, we had to change it up, a lot more pieces."
There was more organizing and coordinating in 2020. The Walla Walla County community also donated $18,000 to help fund supplies and Christmas presents for the program.
"I'm just so grateful for not only all of my local law enforcement that have supported us through this but also our community, that they were just willing to continue to give, and we were able to help so many other families then we've ever helped before," Dennison said, the Yak Tri News reported.
