Walla Walla Community College Update on Indoor Mask Mandate

Walla Walla Community College recently issued the following announcement on March 9.

Hello WWCC students, faculty and staff:

Governor Inslee has announced that the indoor mask mandate in the State of Washington is ending on March 12. This statewide change means that the wearing of masks on campus at WWCC will become a personal choice after March 12. Please keep in mind that many of our colleagues and classmates are immunocompromised, or live with those who are, so there are many reasons for the choices each of us will make. Empathy and compassion are core values of our college community, so I ask everyone to make good choices for themselves and to respect the choices of others as we negotiate this new social dynamic.

WWCC will continue to follow the guidelines established by the Governor, local, state, and federal health officials, and other applicable laws or guidelines. The expiration of the indoor mask mandate does not affect the COVID-19 vaccination requirements for employees and students, so accommodations provided through the exemption review process (masking, online learning, etc.) remain in place for accommodated individuals. Please watch your WWCC email account for further information.

While cases and hospitalizations have declined, COVID-19 will continue to be a part of our daily lives for the foreseeable future. If you are sick, please stay home and follow the CDC’s guidance on isolation and quarantine. Distancing is also still encouraged where possible.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate the changing course of COVID-19. We are deeply grateful for everything students, faculty and staff have done to protect yourselves and others around you.

Be well,

 Chad Emerson Hickox, Ph.D.

President
