The National Association of Social Workers Washington Chapter recognized Deisy Haid, field education director and assistant professor of social work and sociology, as 2022 Social Work Educator of the Year.
Haid is a licensed clinical social worker and works to find practicum placements for WWU social work students. This offered special challenges in a setting where students were studying remotely and required remote practicum positions at organizations with which Haid was unfamiliar.
Haid also played a major role in founding a new mental health clinic in the Walla Walla Valley, which offers behavioral health services in an underserved area and provides additional field practicum opportunities for WWU students.
The NASW chapter lauded Haid as “an amazing example of an educator who goes above and beyond for her students and for social work.”
Haid plans to graduate this year with her Doctor of Social Work degree from Walla Walla University.
