Three homes were threatened during a grass fire Monday in Clarkston.
Firefighters with Asotin County Fire District #1 were called to a tractor on fire that started grass on fire around homes, out buildings and a camper on Toby Lane.
Asotin County Crews called for mutual aid from Lewiston Fire Department because of the threat on nearby homes.
Crews were able to contain the fire line before reaching homes, but it did damage a wood fence near one home and heavily damaged the tractor.
Temperatures were hitting 100 degrees when firefighters were working to stop the fire.
Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin stressed to home owners to "please create a defensible space around your property." He said a wet May and June added to the growth of a
lot of grass which is now extremely dry in the valley. With high temps and low humidity it doesn't take much for a fire to start and run.
There were no reported injuries in this fire.
