Cowlitz County DEM posted regarding the Fire Danger and Red Flag Warning for Cowlitz County and SW Washington. Some questions have been asked concerning “What does
this mean?”.
Using Cowlitz County’s “Ready, Set, GO!” program, all of Cowlitz County should now be at the ‘Ready’ stage of alertness and response. Probably most important at this level is for
all to have an increased level of situational awareness, regarding what this information means for you and your plans. It includes being mindful of additional notifications, alerts,
news reports, and your surroundings. It’s a perfect time to ensure you can receive alerts (reverse calling) on your cellphone. Follow the attached QR code or go to our website and
follow the instructions for Hyper-Reach.
The ‘Ready’ level is a good time to review with your significant circle of family and/or friends, who is your out-of-area emergency contact along with their contact information, should
this warning become a reality. While doing so, we have learned from other emergencies/disasters across the country, this is also a good time to confirm with your emergency
contact that their information is current and correct. It is also recommended that the emergency contact enter all known phone numbers that might be contacting them during an
emergency so that they are able to identify the text or caller as being something other than spam
Another recommendation is to discuss with your group, especially with younger children, what your group’s plan is for different hours of the day such as during the morning,
evening, or overnight hours, and if that varies from day to day. Discuss things such as reunification locations, the times to attempt to contact each other, alternate travel routes, and
other important details.
