Making Sense of Road Closed Signs - If you've driven near downtown at all this spring or summer, chances are you've come across one of these signs. Let's clear up any confusion
that might be out there about what each one of them means.
ROAD CLOSED - LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY: These signs are placed at the edge of a work zone to alert travelers that the road they are on is fully closed ahead. You may travel past
these signs, but only to access a residence or a business immediately inside posted signage.
ROAD CLOSED - NO THRU TRAFFC: Identical to the above sign, but often placed on arterials and roads with higher traffic volumes. The reminder is that this road cannot be used
to travel thru to your destination, only to access a residence or business immediately inside the signage.
ROAD CLOSED: When you see a ROAD CLOSED sign with no other attached signage, this means you may NOT travel past this sign. The roadway is impassable beyond these
signs. There may be excavation, construction in progress or road crews at work, so travel is prohibited for the safety of both drivers and crews.
When roads are partially or fully closed, City crews will make every effort possible to allow pedestrian access to businesses in the area. Look for blue signage directing foot traffic
and call ahead to your destination to get up-to-date info on parking and walking options.
Thanks for observing all posted signs in work zones - we appreciate your cooperation.
