Garage a total loss, nearby home protected from serious damage.
Longview Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire shortly after 8pm on Wednesday evening near the intersection of
Florida Street and 30th Avenue. The fire was reported by the homeowner who noted smoke and flames visible from the detached garage behind their
residence. Four Engine Companies, one Ladder Company, two Battalion Chiefs and a Medic Unit responded.
Longview Battalion Chief Jeff Thompson arrived to a large, detached garage with flames visible and possible extension to the nearby home. Firefighting
efforts were hampered by arcing power lines, but crews had the fire controlled within fifteen minutes of the first Engine Company arrival. The homeowner
confirmed all family members had evacuated the home and everyone was accounted for.
The detached garage and contents, as well as nearby vehicle were a total loss. Several other vehicles on the property were damaged. The primary
residence was protected by fire crews and was largely unaffected.
The origin and cause remain under investigation. The displaced occupant will be staying with family and/or friends until power can be restored.
Longview Fire Department and Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue responded to the fire.
