Children who bully their peers are at greater risk for other problem behaviors like stealing, vandalism, school absences, and substance use. When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior they send the message that it is not acceptable. Research shows this can stop bullying behavior over time.
If bullying is occurring at school, learn about what your state requires schools to do in your state’s anti-bullying law. Federal laws require schools to address harassment based on race, color, national origin, sex, and disabilities and ways to report situations that have not been adequately addressed to the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice.
Talk to your child about bullying and consequences of that behavior.
