Execessive heat watch

EXECESSIVE HEAT WATCH

Cowlitz County Heat and Cooling Centers information:

Temperatures are expected to begin warming to above normal on Sunday (today) and remain very warm to hot throughout this week.  Maximum temperatures will most likely reach

into the 90 – 100 degree range during a 5-day stretch beginning Monday, with Tuesday –Wednesday/Thursday appearing to be the hottest days at this time. The forecast includes:

•Very high confidence (greater than 90%) of temperatures exceeding 90° F

•High confidence (70-80%) of temperatures exceeding 95° F

•Moderate confidence (40-60%) of temperatures exceeding 100° F

Of additional concern is that overnight recovery periods will be warming during the course of the week:

•Moderate confidence (50 - 70%) of overnight low temperatures greater than 65° F

•Low confidence (20-30%) of overnight low temperatures exceeding 70° F

Temperatures like these, especially in areas not accustom to this type of weather, may create dangerous situations, especially for our vulnerable populations and pets.

Should temperatures climb above 90 degrees the week of July 25 – 29, the following locations have indicated that they will be open and available to serve as daytime cooling centers,

during normal business hours or as volunteers area available to staff locations:

Should additional resources become available, we will update the Cowlitz County Emergency Management Facebook post.  Additionally, the City of Longview will have a bus located

on Alabama Street at Oregon Way if staffing is available.
