Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, a current U.S. Congress representative for Washington’s 3rd district, has been vocal on issues relating to public utilities and community recognition. Gluesenkamp Perez, who succeeded Jaime Herrera Beutler in 2023, uses social media platforms to shed light on critical infrastructural necessities and to acknowledge local heroes in her district.

On April 16, 2025, she addressed the importance of maintaining robust water and wastewater services. In her post, she stated, "Reliable water and wastewater service is under-appreciated but critically necessary work." Emphasizing the need to prevent systemic failures and rate increases, she expressed her commitment to empowering public utilities for sustained community support.

The following day, April 17, 2025, she shared a link on her social media without any accompanying text, leaving the content undisclosed (https://t.co/Mqncv1DwYy).

Continuing her recognition of community contributions, Perez also announced the inception of her Congressional Leadership Awards on the same day. The awards aim to honor uncelebrated service and heroism within her district. She expressed enthusiasm about the nominations, stating, "I kicked off my Congressional Leadership Awards to honor the outstanding initiative, service, & heroism that goes unrecognized in #WA03 each day."

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, born in Harris County, Texas in 1988, resides in Washougal. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Reed College, obtained in 2012.
