School leaders in Walla Walla have completed new guidelines on how public comment will occur during the school district's virtual school board meetings, according to the Union-Bulletin.
The previous guidelines drew criticism after during a Sept. 29 board meeting, four letters opposing the school districts' reopening were read. The news media said that later it was discovered that the letters did not represent the different opinions that the district had received regarding reopening.
The new guidelines lay out that letters sent six days before meetings will be made public record and will be posted on the district's website, as well as being shared with the school board all before the meeting. The letters will not be read at the meeting. They also note that public comments must include the author's name, contact information and address on the public comments.
Board President Sam Wells said he believed that the opinions they received on the reopening issue were split 50/50, the news media reported.
